Reilly was my first Labrador and the one who made me fall in love with the breed.  He was a sweet mellow boy who was often compared to "Ferdinand the Bull" - he always took time to stop and smell the roses.  He loved a good game of tug and was not above begging for a belly rub.  His favorite season was Fall, when the apples (his favorite treat) seemed to rain from the sky.  He gave me my start in obedience competition and introduced me to the world of dogs.  Above all else, Reilly was my beloved "Heart Dog" and cherished once-in-a-lifetime friend who could usually be found at my side.  Reilly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge far too soon and is terribly missed.  See a Tribute to Reilly in the Labrador Quarterly.

Obedience Highlights​

Reilly was my Novice A obedience dog and had 1 Utility leg; all of his obedience accomplishments were owner-trained and handled.

  • 3/3/01: Reilly successfully completed a Puppy Manners Class.  

  • 10/17/01: Reilly successfully completed a Beginning Off Leash Control Class.

  • 7/6/02: Reilly earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title.

  • 1/10/03: At the Tacoma Kennel Club show, Reilly earned a qualifying score in Novice A Obedience to complete the 1st leg of his CD title under judge Christopher Cornell.   It was Reilly's first time in the obedience ring and I was very proud of him.

  • 1/11/03: At the Sammamish Kennel Club show, Reilly earned a qualifying score in Novice A Obedience to complete the 2nd leg of his CD title under judge Richard F. Christ.

  • 2/1/03: At the Seattle Kennel Club show, Reilly earned his third qualifying score and third place in Novice A Obedience to complete his CD obedience title under judge Earl B. Vaughan.

  • 8/2/03: At the PSLRA Specialty show, Reilly earned a qualifying score and 1st place in Open A obedience to complete the first leg of his CDX title under judge Harlowe Jahelka.  This was Reilly's first time entered in Open.

  • 10/12/03 - 10/13/03: At the Fraser Valley Dog Fanciers CKC shows Reilly earned qualifying scores in Novice B Obedience to complete two legs of his Canadian CD title.

  • 7/25/04: At the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club show, Reilly earned a qualifying score and first place in Open A to complete the second leg of his CDX title under judge Earl B. Vaughan.

  • 10/8/04: At the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. National Specialty Show in Brighton, CO, Reilly earned a qualifying score in Open A to complete his CDX obedience title under judge Don L. Schempp.

  • 7/30/05: At the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club show, Reilly earned a qualifying score and second place in Utility A to earn the first leg of his Utility Title under judge Susan Oviatt.  This was Reilly's first time in the Utility ring.  The judge was Susan Oviatt.

  • Reilly earned Rally Novice B qualifying scores in 3 straight shows (Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association Specialty Show 8-4-06, Nisqually Kennel Club Show 8-12-06, and the Olympic Kennel Club Show 8-20-06 ) to complete his Rally Novice (RN) title.

  • 11/24/07:  At the Elsie Murray CKC show, Reilly earned a qualifying score and 3rd place in Novice B Obedience to complete his Canadian CD title under judge Roland Belanger.

Field Highlights​

All of Reilly's field accomplishments were owner-trained and handled.

  • 5/4/03:  Reilly earned the first leg of his Junior Hunter title at the PSLRA Hunt Test under judges Sharon Hilton and George Tookey.

  • 5/25/03: Reilly earned the second leg of his Junior Hunter title at the Oregon Hunting Retriever Club Hunt Test under judges John Tate and Bob Lane.

  • 6/1/03: Reilly earned the third leg of his Junior Hunter title at the Evergreen Golden Retriever Club's Hunt Test under judges Ron Perry and Boyd Ulsh.

  • 7/13/03: Reilly finished his Junior Hunter (JH) title at the Oregon Retriever Trial Club's Hunt Test under judges Jim Morris, Phil Speer, and Pam Bunnell (apprentice).

  • 10/9/04: Reilly earned his Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. Working Certificate (WC) title at the 2004 National Specialty in Mead, CO under judges Dale Brummett and Barb Ironside.

  • 4/9/05: Reilly qualified at the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association's 5-Series.

  • 10/7/07: At the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. National Specialty Hunt Test held at Reeder Ranch, Sauvie Island, OR Reilly earned his 5th Junior Hunter pass under judges Barbara Ironside and Eric Soneson.
